12x12 Art Workshops with Sherri McDonald
12x12 Art Workshops with Sherri McDonald In Collaboration with the Juneau-Douglas City Museum
Local artist Sherri McDonald will be teaching two community workshops for youth and adults who would like to create a piece for the City Museum’s fourteenth annual 12x12 community art exhibit, “Seasons”, opening March 2, 2018.
The youth workshop (for ages 13 and younger) will take place on February 17th from 9:00am-11:00am and costs $43. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The adult workshop (for ages 14 and older) will take place on February 10th from 1:00-4:00pm and costs $62. All art materials are included in the price of the workshops. The $12.12 submission fee for entry into the 12x12 exhibit is NOT included in the workshop fee.
“Participants will learn the basics of collage and begin cutting and tearing paper for their piece. Each artist will receive a 12x12 wooden panel board, plenty of colored art papers, magazine papers and will have all the tools they need to create their one-of-a-kind “Seasons” collage piece. We will finalize the art with hanging hardware, so it is ready to be entered in the City Museum’s 12x12 show. What does the word “seasons” mean to you and how does one share their “seasons” with the community? Find your answers through art and submit it into this show!” states McDonald.
Sherri McDonald’s love for paper began during a bookbinding apprenticeship in 1993. She followed this paper passion and became a bookbinder which lead her to “collage and everything paper.” Her work has been displayed in the 2013 Smithsonian Craft Show, 2008 All Alaska Juried Art Exhibition XXXII, Juneau Douglas City Museum, Rie Munoz Gallery and The Canvas Community Art Studio. You can find her art year around at Annie Kaill’s, Color Wheel Arts and on her website www.papermountainstudio.com.
Both Workshops will be held at Color Wheel Arts located at 1112 3rd street, suite 300 in Douglas. Please call Sherri McDonald to register for the class at 907-209-7173 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Artists of all ages are encouraged to submit a piece to the 12X12 exhibit, even if they do not attend the workshop. The artwork must be a square or cube measuring 12 inches by 12 inches (by 12 inches), be ready to hang, and focus on the theme “Seasons.” Submissions are due at the Museum February 20th -24th, accompanied by a registration form and the $12.12 submission fee.
