Book Club: People of the Book
Join us for this science themed book club! People of the Book traces the harrowing journey of the gamed Sarajevo Haggadah, a beautifully illuminated Hebrew manuscript created in the fifteenth-century Spain. When it falls to Hanna Heath, an Australian rare-book expert to conserve this priceless work, the series of tiny artifacts she discovers in its ancient binding only begin to unlock its deep mysteries and unexpectedly plunges Hanna into the intrigues of fine art forgers and ultra-national fanatics. We'll be joined by special guest Jodi DeBruyne, the Curator of Collections and Exhibits at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum. She is responsible for the acquisition, care, and exhibiting of historical and cultural artifacts at the Museum. She will be available to talk about how we preserve cultural artifacts in the rain forest and the science behind preservation.
